Project: The works for James House consist of stripout of materials from JH1 and JH2, demolition of existing link structure, new steel portal frame building link structure with a superstructure made up of glazed curtain walling, cladding and brickwork and internal fit out of JH1 ad JH2 to form new offices.

Key Risks: Prior to and during commencement of the works at James House numerous activities/hazards were identified which required mitigating including addressing: –
- Overhead and underground services: underground drainage, electrical, water, gas, BT, CCTV and security services present throughout site.
- UXO – Site at risk of containing unexploded ordinance.
- Site Access & Deliveries – access from busy A41 which is busy with pedestrians and traffic.
- Asbestos Containing Materials (ACM’s) present within the site location.
- Temporary Support: Structural collapse, overloading and personal injury during demolition and alteration works.
- Working at Height.
- Cleaning & Maintenance – Cleaning behind platform lift within centre of stairs.
Comments: SBA were appointed by the Client during the post-contract phase of the project. This was an exiting project to be involved with. The new office space is comfortable and inspiring. The project value and involvment highlights SCC’s commitment to ensuring their global headquarters remained in Birmingham but reflected the companies size and status within the industry.
